about

The title is taken from the King’s Yard Gate, a facility in Freetown, Sierra Leone where newly liberated slaves were taken.

lyrics

Verse 1
Who’s that ghost swimming in your pocket
Changing your face from white to blue
Does she know she’s still here,
Lingering with you?

I’ve counted all the times you’ve woken
Covered in the ashes that fell from your cigar
I understand, she’s still here,
In between the stars

Chorus
We know how this’ll end
The prayers of God and mice and men
Can only do so much to save
You from the voice beneath the waves

Verse 2
Freetown left you shaking slowly
As you sank into the lighthouse walls
Where’s your light, its hallowed sight,
That kept you from the fall?

(Chorus)

Bridge
I don’t know if you can hear me
Maybe you might slightly fear me
Trampled till your breathing falters
By the angel in Gibraltar

Verse 3
There’s a ghost burning through your pocket
But something tells me you don’t mind
But you and I, are still alive
At least for a time
